TMJ - Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome
"TMJ" as it is commonly called, refers to TMD which stands for Temporomandibular Disorder. It is also referred to as "the great impostor" because symptoms of TMD (TMJ) mimic many different disorders.
People suffering from congested ears, ringing in the ears, or stuffiness of the ears, often seek help from an ear, nose, and throat specialists only to find that their ears are normal. People who wake up with headaches, who suffer from migraines or various unexplained headaches seek the help of a neurologist who takes an MRI or Cat scan only to find that there is no obvious cause. They are then given a plethora of medications for the pain which can impair their lifestyle. While the above mentioned symptoms can relate to ear, throat, and neurological problems, they are also found with TMD.
Treating TMJ
Not all dentists are trained in treating TMD therefore many treatments that patients receive from their dentist are ineffective at treating this disorder. Drs. Hemingway and Reber have advanced training in treating TMD. They use cutting edge technology and computers to track the perfect jaw positioning to stabilize the temporomandubular joint and stop the pain by placing the muscles in your jaw and face in perfect harmony. See the "Pain and Headaches" section to see how this is done.
